William,

I am a C2 quad. I use sip and puff to operate my wheelchair. It operates using either hard puff, soft puff, hard sip or soft sip giving you 4 switches which function as a 4 position joystick.

The controller starts out in standby, a hard puff puts you in drive mode. In drive mode a hard puff moves the chair forward. When it is moving forward a soft puff turns right, a soft sip turns left, a hard sip stops. When stopped, a hard sip moves the chair backward.

I can also tilt, recline, lift legs up, slide back up and down.

Does that help explain the way it works?

Jim

Subject: sip & puff control

Raymond,
I too am a quad C4 for the past 10 years.  My immobility has made it impossible for me to control my powered wheelchair.  I'm looking at the possibility of modifying it with a  sip and puff control system.

Do you utilize this control system on your wheelchair?  Would the modification be achievable?  How practical is the operation of a chair with that type control system?

The environmental control system that I have utilized with my bed set up uses a flexible non-metallic tubing.  It is available from various suppliers listed on the Internet.  I have had excellent success using it and is very practical.

If you have had any experience with CEU wheelchair operation, please help.
