Back in the 70's a group of psychiatrist did a study of violent behavior among
mentally and emotionally handicapped children that were regarded as "violent".
just to sum up their unanimous findings, The children were not inherently
violent. They had learned to be violent and easily porovoked to violence bvy
the treatment they recieved from others. The children were often seen as a
burden by there caregivers and neglected and abused. There violent behaviore
was a result of learned responce to their environment and their expectations of
the treatment they would recieve. Those with the worst communication skills
were noticably more violent. Hidden cameras showed the children unable to play
because of fear. The ability to play with others is important in any childs
ability to learn.
The cxonclusion of the study was that these children must have extremely
forgiving and loving family lives. They found that severely emotionally
disturbed children with profound violent behavior became calm and curious when
placed in open friendly environments.
