Dan -- I had terrible pain but (as I mentioned in a longer post) I couldn't take Lyrica because of being on Neurontin (aka: Gabapentin). So if you take Neurontin I doubt they'd give you Lyrica - unless you can cut that out first.
Instead, my doc gave me Cymbalta. It works similarly to Lyrica but it is compatible with Neurontin. Except for the sleepyness I experienced it really worked pretty well.
