you could always be a doctor, look at house!

Hi Dianna, Others...
There was a time when I almost always tooks my meds *with* alcohol in the
morning and/or afternoon. Usually just before classes and once I got home in
the afternoon.
Over time I reduced the drinks just because I'd run out of time in preparing in
the morning and trying to get work done later. I didn't notice much difference
at the time. Being that busy took my mind off the pain (usually).
I did find that any time I wasn't busy my pain would increase. Have a few
drinks with meds didn't help. So eventually I ended up on stronger pain meds.
Even now with stronger meds I notice very little difference when I add alcohol
into the mix... unless it's a significant amount, and I just can't do that if I
plan to have a job. (How about a Drunk Teacher hooked on Pain Meds teaching
your kids and grading their homework!?? Ya know?)
I still have significant pain but a drink here and there has absolutely no
effect on it.
As far as withdrawal, I never had problems suddenly stopping long-term
Oxycontin/Oxycodone or with Hydrocodone(Vicodin). I know I can reduce my
current meds or skip doses without problems. There are times when I can tell
taking a particular dose won't help so I just skip it. But there are also
other times I double-up a dose or two and wash them down with a beer or
something stronger and it just takes the edge off.
I haven't tried quitting my current hydromorphone entirely. My doc says it
would be about a 1-year process. Based on my record of quitting others
entirely, I'm thinking less ... but I won't know until I actually do it.
Best wishes to All,

I forgot to add that I always run out of meds before I can get them
refilled. Taking a few more than I should. Anyone else? It's tough to go those
2,3 maybe 4 days without any! It was so much easier when I numbed (barely)
with alcohol :-)
