I need help deciding what to do for my husband. He is a C-4 complete with a trach and a peg tube. He was hospitlized for a year and has been home since May.
Since he has been home he has been hospitizied 3 times with pnemonia and is currenltly in the hospital. When he goes to the hospital he needs IV meds. Currenltly his IV is in his foot because his veins are hard to get at. The hospital wants to put a pic line in again. I have told him no at this time because his vein is still working. When he was hospitlized (first year), he got a blood clot in his arm due to the pic line. I am trying to prevent that from happening again. It has been suggested from our home health care agency to get a port installed, so we can do IV's at home. The doctors have told me they cause blood clots as well. I am trying to make the best decision for my husband without causing anymore complications, especially blood clots. Can anyone tell me what is the lesser of the two evils? Picc line or Port? Please provide me some feedback. FYI - My husband got MRSA when he was hospitalied initially. It comes and it goes. I was just reading that the regular IV's can cause that as well.....\ I don't what to do. Please help. Thank you, Kandy - wife of C4 complete, accident 5-8-08. ( My husband has many complications).
