It is even more undermined by the fact that the stem cells used in the Vivo process described by the Website are neural stem cells which are harvested from the brain or spinal system...not from embryos. The bush administration only banned federal money from being spent on new lines of embryos (there were 60 existing lines where federal money could be spent) . Federal money could be spent on adult and neural stem cells without any restrictions. Private companies could spend research money on anything they wanted to...including embryonic stem cells. Only federal money was banned...
Bush was the first and only President to authorize Federal spending on any kind of stem cell research. The Clinton administration could have authorized it in 2000...but didn't. Bush's position (which I agree with) was that some people believe that killing an embryo is killing a baby. You shouldn't take their money and spending it on something they believe is so wrong. People who want to support such research could start a private foundation and they all could contribute their own money towards the controversial research. Private money spent on embryonic stem cell research is not...and never has been banned. Darrell ----- Original Message ----- From: John S. Oh, and I disagree with most of your points. Eight years of him worshiping stupidity as a virtue and pawning it off to Americans as cost savings. The rest of the world fiddled around trying to advance a medical technology that really needed America's medical expertise to advance. Now you see what we would have been doing eight years ago if it weren't for that intellectual roadblock in the white house who's interests were confined to war. The waste of time and so many lives just boggles the mind. America is literally on the verge of a mass financial collapse after eight years of incredulous and possibly illegal mismanagement. He spent your children's money while saying he was a conservative. He started an unnecessary war that killed and maimed tens of thousands of people while he danced around claiming to be pro life. All the time he said he was advancing democracy he was busy stealing our rights and violating American principles that he swore to uphold. It is true, America has made mistakes in the past, but we should learn from them. Bush referred to the mistakes of the past as precedents for his actions. Now Im ranting, sorry. The site is very interesting.
