Interesting. I have had a suprapubic for almost 4 years now and I've never used the iodine stick. And neither have my doctors when they changed it. We do use the sterile gloves, but I've got boxes of them. And we make sure that nothing touches the tip of the catheter except the KY jelly. I usually wipe around the stoma with an antibacterial wipe before we change it. And afterwards we put a coating of antibacterial cream around the insertion area. I've only had a couple of UTIs.

Yeah, definitely the gloves must be used, and the povedine to desinfect the area. It's also very important that the person changing your catheter doesn't touch anything but the steryl stuff while
doing it.
