December 25 was picked as the date for Christmas because it was the date of a pagan holiday also. They knew it would be easier to use a date that people were already celebrating.
Greg _____ I am not exactly pagan but I am definitely not a member of1 another particular sect either (like Christianity, etc.). However, I respect and prefer the pagan beliefs over organized religions. Also, let us remember that all the "fun traditions" surrounding Christmas including Christmas trees, Yule logs, Christmas trees, Mistletoe and so much more is derived from ancient pre-Christian customs. From the Druids to the Scandinavian peoples to Romans (pre-Christ) etc. etc. etc.
