Theodore DeReese "Teddy" Pendergrass, Sr. (March 26, 1950_[1]_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Pendergrass#cite_note-ALLMUSIC-0) – January 13, 2010_[2]_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Pendergrass#cite_note-ABCNEWS-1) ) was an American _R&B_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythm_and_blues) /_soul_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul_music) singer and songwriter. Pendergrass first rose to fame as lead singer of _Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Melvin_&_the_Blue_Notes) in the 1970s before a successful solo career at the end of the decade. In 1982, he was severely injured in an auto accident in Philadelphia, resulting in his being paralyzed from the waist down. After his injury, the affable entertainer founded the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance, a foundation which helps those with spinal cord injuries. “Mere longevity is a goodthing for those who watch Life from the side lines. For those who play the game, an hour may be a year, a single day's work an achievement foreternity.”
