My Doc was missing one Saturday when I went in and the partner recognized I was an old hand at this UTI thing and offered me a 30 day supply of Levaquin that I could use 'as needed' provided I pee in a cup 1st, refrigerate it and bring it in if I wasn't noticeably better in 3 days. So far, I have had good luck with this method 2 times and still have half my Levaquin remaining for my next encounter. The worst problem was a raging rash in the nethers that the visiting nurse said was yeast related and probably caused by the Levaquin. A little anti-fungal cream fixed that up in about 2 days. Jumping on these UTIs quickly really helps me. 1000 mg of Vitamin C and a few cranberry tabs also are helping keep me clean! After 43 years of this crap, you'd think I'd know all this stuff already. At 01:33 PM 5/31/2010, Nichole Rohling said something that elicited my response: I have a rx for cipro on hand at all times. if i get symptomatic which is foul odor and a lot of white sediment i start taking it. i always call the dr but talk with nurse and usually end up completing dosage. i rarely get a fever with it.........try to nip it before it gets that bad. nicki -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [_ mailto:[email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) ] Sent: Monday, May 31, 2010 12:15 PM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Self Medicate When you sense a UTI, call your MD or URO and leave a message. If no reply in 8 hrs, consider the self medication. Much depends on your relationship with the meds and your doctor's confidence in you. Best Wishes In a message dated 5/31/2010 12:04:06 P.M. I had some Keflex on hand (one of only two antibiotics I'm not allergic to, the other being Biaxin) so I started taking a one week dose - 500mg 4Xday. Well, when I talked to my PP - though his nurse - I was told he was not pleased. I'm thinking I had no choice. So, what do you guys think? Also, when I call my doctor I always have to talk to his nurse and she decides if I should make an appointment to see the doctor or go to the emergency room, those are my only options. Is this standard procedure these days? Dan
