I played around with a friend's IPad and it seemed pretty quad friendly. My concern is that it would slide off my lap and hit the ground. I don't know how solid or shockproof they are.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'hold with one hand.' The IPad is fairly light and thin, but it would depend on what kind of hand function you have.
