I would double check with a urologist on this however I'm pretty sure that as 
long as the saline is sterile--as well as the irrigation syringe etc. there 
should be no danger.  In rehab--Santa Clara Valley Rehabilitation in San Jose, 
CA--irrigating 
a catheter (in my case single use internal catheter) with 40ml of saline was 
standard procedure after each cath.

In addition I wrote a column for the online version of New Mobility magazine 
about irrigating with a 40ml solution of a (prescription only) mixture of an 
antibiotic called Neosporin G.U. Irrigant mixed with saline.  This is NOT the 
same
Neosporin that you purchase over the counter.  I have been using it when my 
urine gets cloudy, smelly and seems to have a UTI brewing--that and remembering 
to drink more water.  So far it has kept UTI's at bay. Here is the link
