Here in Washington state I have been receiving 416 hours/month. Effective 1/1/11 it was reduced 27 hours to 389 hours/month. As of 1/28/11 due to a court injunction the reduction was put on hold through May.
These hours can be used for RNs or LPNs. Every nurse I have had we had to train how to suction and the ventilator. My family is with me when I don't have nurses. We use our nursing hours for nights so my mom can sleep then she takes over in the morning.
If a ventilator users does not have there own support for the remaining hours then they have ventilator group homes.

Hello everyone,
Sh*t is hitting the fan in Wisconsin as you may have seen on television. Well word on the street has it that Medicaid and ventilator users in particular are next. Apparently, the state did some study and found mortality rates among ventilator users didn't increase when said users were cared for by aides as opposed to nurses. Where they found aides with ventilator training is beyond me. I have a hard enough time finding ventilator trained nurses. Anyway, because of this study they are only going to pay people that care for vent users aide wages. Well, none of the nurses that work for me can afford that kind of pay cut. So I'm basically going to lose my entire nursing staff. My question for all of you is what does your state provide for care for 24/7 vent users on Medicare /Medicaid. Thanks.
