Under the disguise of fiscal conservatism, the US House of Representatives passed Congressman Paul Ryans House Budget Resolution which will fundamentally change Medicare and Medicaid while protecting tax rates for the richest 2% in the country. State governments will have to do more with less Medicaid funding which will continue the institutional bias and result in reductions in all home and community services. They frame this attack as a simple deficit and debt problem. It is never acknowledged that Medicaid provides critical funding that allows millions of low and middle income Americans who need services and supports to stay in their own homes with dignity. For Americans with disabilities and older Americans, cutting Medicaid is the equivalent of robbing us of our freedom, taking our independence and stealing our lives.
