I agree with lwillis. I also suggest GNC Power Protein Powder too. It
comes in powder form and taste great when mixed with milk, twice a day. Stay
awake from the fats and fatty foods.
Best Wishes

It is fairly expensive, but the best protein source I have found is
ProStat. It comes in a big bottle, is the consistency of cough syrup, BUT has
15
g. of protein in two tablespoons. Sometimes it is available on eBay and is
not hard to find elsewhere.

there are two problems for anthony with those store bought protein drinks
at least the stuff like boost and ensure  1.  they are  loaded with sugar;
and 2. for anthony he has a open stoma/trach issue so he can't drink a
whole class of anything like we do in one sitting. our alternative is that he
has a stomach tube and his GI Dr. will prescribe him formula that i can put
into his tube throughout the day, will have to start that again when we
get home.

My home health agency nurses (or wound care nurses) always suggested
buying protein shakes whenever I have had a wound -- big or small. They are
really expensive but when a body is trying to heal a wound like that... a high
protein diet is always highly suggested.

When I had a wound in 2004/2005 (also a stage III but only laid me up for
six months) my husband would pick them up at the grocery store but grocery
stores now either do not carry them or they cost an arm, a leg, an ear
lobe, a nostril, a little toe and a tooth!!! the other alternative is that
they
can be found easily at Gold's Gym. There, they come in 30, 40 and 50 or 60
mg per can. But they are large cans and drinking half of one one day and
then the other half the next day is more than plenty. One should also take
some breaks from consuming a protein shake or a protein bar (skip a day or
two after numerous days in a row or up to a week) because too much of
anything causes problems elsewhere. Too much protein can put someone into
ketosis. A high protein diet can also, or will, cause weight loss (which is
why
they are found at Gold's Gym). Kind of a Catch-22 situation for us "skin and
bone" peoples.

There are also protein bars that can be purchased and the last time my
husband went to Costco or Sam's Club he picked me up a big box of them so that
I can eat one 2 or 3 times a week. Since we have not had any desserts in
the house lately I have been having a half of one after dinner.

I must confess, I always like just a little bit of a dessert (mostly
chocolate) after dinner. Protein bars don't taste the greatest but good enough
to make up for dessert (for me anyway). Protein "bars" are also high in
sugar and, for me, a whole one is quite filling. Protein bars can also serve
as
"a meal" replacement/substitute if anyone finds themselves in situations
of having to do that. Well, not "having to" but they do serve as a meal
substitute because of their ingredients.

looks like anthony's is probably between a 2 and 3 then. none of that
white dead tissue actually some new pinkish growth coming back to fill it in.
His weight and nutrition are a big problem right now and I think that is
the underlying issue. He is rail thin probably going to have to add
additonal nutrition like some cans of formula again to supplement is regular
diet.
