I was injured diving into a lake in WI. I was conscious, floating face-down and
holding my breath, hoping my friends would see me and help me. It was the most
terrifying 60? 90? 120? seconds of my life. Just before I was about to give up
my friend, Pete, flipped me over, saving my life. To this day, almost 30 years
later, I can recall the color of the water and the sheer panic I felt at that
moment. I feel sorry for anyone who drowns.

I respect water now, although I go fishing, tubing, and water skiing every so
often. I always disconnect my seatbelt when I'm near water, and instruct other
quad friends to do the same.
