Hi Amy,

What a great idea. Amy. Way to go.
The guy who lost his leg up to his hips was at Craig for further pressure
problems. He was a paraplegic and could do his own weight shifts.. It's
hard to believe what some people can't understand their own bodies. I wonder
if she went to rehab. It is amazing how quickly sores can go from stage I to
stage 3. I also take pictures with my digital camera so I can see the
wound maybe she can not understand because she cannot see the wound.. The
nurse
for the wound care. Dr. gave me a list of foods I need to promote healing,
and also they told me to take L Argentine. It is a generic.I know that
spelling is wrong. You can get it through your pharmacy. They did not have in
stock, so they ordered for me. It's much cheaper than the drink I have
taken in the past. I'm also drinking a high protein drink by Insure. It only
has 2 1/2 g of fat and 9 g of protein. Thethe regular Insurer have 9 g of
fat. My rehab doctor also said to take a high dosage of zinc, I take 225 mg
twice a day by prescription.

Dana,

it would be great if there was Utube, about what happens when sores are
neglected. It would be so useful for cases such as hers. I use a high profile
QuadraRoho cushion. I have used Roho since 1978 with great results, other
than a few times it became deflated and I did not know.
I I think they are wonderful, I did not like the J cushion. They allowed
me to return.

Hi Bobbie,

I am so thankful that you are trying to help her. Don't give up. She may
one day listen to you before her source serious bone infection or loss of
limbs. When I was incorrect hospital, I met a guy who had both of his legs
removed because of bed sores. He had to get around on a cart and I believe he
was a paraplegic. I don't think he took very good care of himself. His
legs were cut above the top of the leg.
The minute I see a red spot. I go to my wound care and begin treatment.
They are really good about healing them. One guy showed me his wound vacuum
as I have never got to see one before. I think the wound has to be a stage
III to get Medicare dressing.
Dana.

Hi All,
I have a neighbor upstairs, Dawn, who is C - 6,7 21 years post at 17 She
has never had a sore .… until now - a stage 4 Pete and I can not seam to
get her to take it seriously. It's located under her thigh where her seat
cushion meets her leg (obviously). Dawn told us about 6 months ago that she
had a red spot on her leg, but she didn't do anything about it the beginning
of March when she went to a wound center. They told her that she needed a
wound-vac, keep her leg elevated and to get a new cushion. I'll bet you
anything, they told her to stay in bed too … but she would never tell us that.
She also told us that the Doctor said "…by using the wound-vac that the
sore will heal within 1 1/2 months."
Her insurance wouldn't pay for the wound-vac or wheelchair clinic so she
could get a new cushion. By doing an appeal she now has the wound-vacn,
after a 4 week delay. To date she has not gotten a new cushion. We keep
telling her "… forget about insurance, go out and buy yourself a cushion." she
can afford it. BTW ~ her nutrition is hideous and she said her other thigh is
now getting red too.
I want to ask you guys, what can we do to convince her just how serious
this is? Isn't stage 4 to the bone? She actually had a neighbor across the
hall from her, quad C - 4,5 who lost his leg due to a pressure sore on his
leg.
Bobbie
