Mandy,
My friend had a problem like that and it took her 4 months of phone calls going
back and forth but she cleared it up. Medi-cal is screwed up but with tenasity
and patience you can at least try.

As you said the healthcare reform is supposed to stop these types of situations
happening to people but it hasn't fully kicked in until 2014. Unless it is
repealed, which I hope does not happen.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Uninsured Quad

Were any of you uninsured at the time of your accident? I have unpaid medical
bills from the initial surgeries before Medicaid kicked in. Medicaid should be
retroactive for 90 days, but something went wrong when my dad filed and I
didn't get coverage for the three months I was in California. Obviously, I lost
my job and all my assets were spent down so I have nothing left to pay the
bills with except my disability check.

I've looked online, but the information is not for people with catastrophic
injuries. It's sad that the government has put us in this pickle from all
directions. They've allowed medical costs to skyrocket, we have to spend down
our savings to qualify for benefits, not to mention the issue of illegal
immigrants getting free health care while tax payers stand to lose everything
over unpaid bills.

Sorry. No politics, I know. I wonder, though, if some type of legislation could
be enacted if the community of SCI; TBI; and chronic, debilitating illnesses
got together and petitioned. I really wish I had been able to go to Obama's
visit at CSU last month. It would be nice to be able to ask anyone higher up a
direct question about our injury and it's effect on our finances and quality of
life as we age.

Okay, enough. :)
