WHAT FUN. Let me know if you get the upper body movement thing figured
out-we can get something going here in Reno. Good for you!

Subject: [QUAD-L] A new sport is born

Wheelchair Wiffleball Over-the-Line [WWOTL]

Well, the last few months we've been working on a new sport for wheelchair
users. We've taken the sport of Over-the-Line [OTL], which is sort of
softball played on a tennis court [or the beach] with imaginary base
runners, and have tweaked it for indoor play on a basketball court using
wiffleballs. We've had a great time creating our own new sport and
[especially] making it as inclusive as possible. Quads and paras alike have
been included in the game, although more quads keep coming back to play.

All one needs is the ability to swing a wiffle bat [most of us use cuffs or
a strong arm] and the ability to control your wheelchair. You don't have to
hit the ball far or hard, in fact, the shorter hits are harder to defend.
We're even trying to think of ways to incorporate powerchair users with no
upper body movement. There has to be a way we can have them 'bat' with
adaptations. We'll figure something out.

Anyhow, I'll be writing down the 'rules' to our new sport soon. Maybe we can
eventually get it published in Sports n Spokes.

The point of my post: YOU can still have fun and be competitive. If there's
not a sport or activity you like, create your own!!

We'll be playing WWOTL every Tuesday night at 6:30, if you're ever in
Phoenix, AZ.
