It's a tough call, Bob. I've met Senator Harken and admire him greatly. His
speech is definitely heartfelt and moving. But the opinions he's expressing are
exactly that: opinions. He cannot guarantee anything with respect to the U.N.
or international law. Especially when it comes down to legal wording in
legislation it seems there are always [at least] two ways to interpret meaning
and therefore effect of any law/treaty/agreement. Now throw international
politics into the legal mix and the whole thing gets even murkier. While I like
the 'idea' of the treaty, there were simply too many questionable aspects of it
for me, and many others, to support it. I guess I would rather err on the side
of caution. We can always petition to be a late signatory if it turns out to be
worthwhile legislation down the road.

I respect the debate on this topic.
Don.

I've done my research. This whole idea that the UN Treaty would somehow
supersede Constitutinal rights or change things for people with disabiltes
is false.  Please take the time to listen to Senator Harken's heartfelt
response to the Senators that voted against the CRDP.
