Dear Judy,
For people with disabilities and their families, it is important for them to be
included in the community and live as independently as possible. An
institutional setting does not allow this independence.
We no longer have the excuse that we don't know any better. We now know that
this is a human and civil rights issue, and that outdated programs that
segregate people with I/DD need to be stopped. The lack of affordable,
accessible housing needs to be remedied as soon as possible.
A safe place to call home should be afforded to everyone. Please sign this
petition against unnecessary institutionalization, and for better, more
inclusive solutions.
