Dana,
Every single day I sit up in bed - long sitting - and stretch my back by
leaning forward to touch my toes. I hang on to the bottom of my feet with the
back of my "paws" and pull as best I can. Then I sit up, put my right "paw" on
the outside of my left knee and put my left hand "paw" on the bed as far back
as I can then look over my shoulder as much as I can twist my back and neck ...
I also look as far as I possibly can with my eyes. Then I do the very same
thing with my other side. Because we are always are leaning forward or reaching
forward I counter balance this by putting the head of the bed down, while I'm
long spitting still, and put my "paws" on the bed to my side but back a bit,
then push my shoulders back as far as I can and stretch my shoulder's. Then,
the last thing I do is, I put my fists on my kidneys and stretch my shoulder's
back as far as I possibly can.
Another thing I do is stretch my neck. I put my ear to my shoulder on both
sides. I look up as high as I can. I also rotate my neck very, very slowly. One
more thing. Before I even sit-up I stretch my eyes. Most people don't think of
their eyes as mussels but they need to be stretched like any other mussels. So,
while lying in bed (or once I'm up - if I forget) I look up as far as I can,
then look down as far as I can, then to the left, to the right and also
kiddy-Conner top and bottom. Also, while keeping my head still, I roll my eyes
all the way around as far as they possibly can go very slowly, then I go in the
opposite direction.
Then once I'm up and acclimated I pop in a cassette I have of a 1 hour seated
aerobic work-out. I follow 2 ab's seated on those stair-steppers, 2 para's and
1 quad that do a 15 minute warm-up then 30 minute out-of-breath aerobic
work-out followed by a 15 minute cool-down. In the beginning I'm sore and tired
and start out very, very, very slow - mostly I watch and once in awhile do some
movements. But after a week, or less, I'm doing the entire 1 hour work-out. I
can't physical do all they do on the tape, so I just do what I can do safely.
Do you do any type of stretching or exercise?
Bobbie
