Good call Don! It isn't a matter of "PC", the terms "wheelchair bound" and "confined to a wheelchair" are journalistically incorrect. Anybody that works in media in the U.S. *should* abide by The Associated Press Stylebook and Libel Manual, a book that is the bottom line on countless phrases etc. The AP manual specifically states "do not use 'wheelchair bound' or 'confined to a wheelchair'". The correct term is wheelchair user.
Bottom line, anytime you see wheelchair bound in a news article, the writer and editer didn't properly proof read, just as bad a spelling errors like "have a glass of shampain". Sorry, but that phrase makes me laugh. Really, it should be avoided whenever possible, no offense intended. Maybe I'm being too P.C.?
