Good afternoon Larry

It would probably help with question if you would say what level you are,
and how much function you actually have. Most of us on here were
technologically challenged before having to use technology. (as for me, I
can remember when we lived in Germany and I wanted to call home to Reno, I
had to place the call 24 hours before and and the operator came on and said
that my number was ready to be dialed I want to go through with a phone call
at this time!)

Computers are magnificently improving and voice recognition is moving ahead
leaps and bounds. You might want to go to NUANCE website and check out
Dragon. They have many versions of Dragon and a medical one also.

One difficulty of doing Triage would be using the phone and the computer
simultaneously by voice. Don't jump into anything too expensive or too
permanent until you have looked at many options. Have you already been
through your state's vocational rehabilitation services? Depending upon the
state, they might have more resources and many states have technological
labs so that you can try different things and they will train you with that.

Many of us use different voice and communication options starting with Jim
Lubin who started this great list. Ask away, the only question that is a
stupid question is no question that didn't get asked. J

Subject: [QUAD-L] Thanks

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the response I received about the hands-free telephone. I really
appreciated the input, unfortunately, I am TECHNOLOGICALLY challenged and
don't really understand about magnets, etc... As someone said in a movie
"talk to me like I am a six-year-old." A recent friend of mine (Glenn)
recommended this site and I very glad because everyone knows the
difficulties of life as a quadriplegic. As I said earlier, the phone must be
entirely hands-free for me to operate it. My problem lies in the fact that I
am not sure how much I will need the phone. I have my Masters Degree in
Nursing, live at home with my parents (who are elderly)--have a sitter who
works week days. I say this because I need to go back to work (from home)
using the computer and/or the telephone. I am enrolled in the Social
Security Ticket to Work program because from what I've seen a nursing home
is no place for a quadriplegic--without sitters who will work more hours
than I can afford (without going back to work). One of my options, is
telephone triage which would require easy, effective use of the telephone. I
appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Larry W Hopkins
