---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: *Gmail* <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, November 9, 2014 Subject: [QUAD-L] Transfer gone wrong or bad To: [email protected] Please read this letter I'm sending to, someone I'm not sure who yet at the hospital I was seen this past Friday. Please give me any advice in rewording or whom I should send this letter to. On 11/7/14 at 2:30 I had an appointment at your wound Center. I got there on time and the lift team was called as I was registering because I am a quadriplegic and a power wheelchair and had a wound on my right issum. They live team consisted of two young men one having long extensions of braided hair, a black man, the other another young man, I believe he was also a black man. They successfully and safely lifted and transferred me from my chair to a stretcher by lifting me themselves without assistance of any kind. Around 4 o'clock they were summoned again to transfer me back into my wheelchair. This time they decided to use the lift Device and put a sling behind my back and under my thighs, which is normal practice. After they put the sling on me, while I was on the stretcher, one of the gentleman got the lift. The lift didn't quite make the Clarence underneath the stretcher, so they proceeded to jam and RAM the lift into the structure BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG then they tried to lift the stretcher up higher BANG, BANG, BANG. Hurting my back each time. The sling connects to a bar with hooks on either side and as they were ramming the lift into the structure the bar was swinging wildly almost hitting my head each time. I kept my hands up to protect my head, my head was never hit. Finally they got the lift underneath the stretcher and hooked me up and raise me up off of the stretcher. Again they had trouble getting the lift out from underneath the structure which made me swing back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Now they lowered me down into my wheelchair. While one gentleman lifted my leg from underneath my thigh to take out the sling the other gentleman was pushing me forward to get the sling out from behind me ... not a normal practice or a safe one. One of the gentleman pulled from behind me the sling and draged the sling under my butt. Now you need to understand that there are three loops that one can hook the sling on to the lift. These three loops were dragged under my butt right where my wound was/is. I explained to one of the gentleman that this was not a good idea because it could cause more damage to my buttocks. He apologize profusely and promised it would never happen again. I reported this incident to the nurse who saw me along with the doctor just 15 minutes ago. She had me go into a treatment room where she could check to see if there was any damage caused my the men dragging the sling under my butt. The nurse said that the douodurm that was just place there by her was still intact. She did this "exam" while I was still sitting in my chair. I am recommending highly that these two gentleman be retrained in their job and sensitivity training toward the patient. Bobbie
