I have had a suprapubic catheter for over eight years, and overall things
have worked well.

At first, I was on a schedule to change the catheter monthly. The last week
of the month, there would typically be problems. Things would get cloudy, or
clog up, or leak. I was able to change the schedule so that the catheter was
changed every three weeks. I've had very few problems since then.

I have tried to avoid taking too many antibiotics, because they seem to
result in diarrhea. And I don't want to create a colony of superbugs who are
resistant to antibiotics, in case I have a big problem in the future.

If you are having catheter -related problems, you might want to keep an eye
on when they occur. If they are occurring the week before your catheter is
scheduled to be changed, you might try asking if your catheter could be
changed a bit more frequently.
