Good afternoon, I am from Lancaster County, Amish country, Pennsylvania. My level was C-5-6. The Elizabethtown cripple Children's Hospital was a state run hospital, basically just a training and warehouse. I did not receive much therapy at the hospital, therapy for spinal cord injuries in the 1960s was almost nonexistent, but I received many life lessons.
It's weird, as I write this exactly 50 years ago today, at this moment, or close to it, they were fishing me out of a swimming pool. During the week in 1966 we had very severe weather in Pennsylvania, living next to the Susquehanna River many weekends were spent with my Sunday school teacher and his mini sailboat or his rowboat. My mother was scared that the recent storms would wash debris down the river and instead of allowing me to go on the river, she said "I will take you to someplace safe", of which she had to live with those words the rest of her life. We went to a public pool, the lifeguard forgot something and went home after leaving his girlfriend on the lifeguard stand. She freaked out as she knew nothing and they did not have anyone that knew to be aware of a broken neck. I had a false tooth lodged in my throat and the two people That Pulled Me kept beating the back of my neck trying to dislodge the tooth. The rest is history. Thanks, have a good one Glenn In a message dated 7/8/2016 3:23:52 P.M. Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Ditto what Danny put forth. Superb testimony Glenn and I too have been on the Q-L and guided others to join over the years. Thank you for telling us your status and, if you so kindly would, please remind us of where you live, your level of injury and who helps you daily [physically] who have also contributed to staying with us.
