I met sweet Pete 34 years ago today in a tavern. I went to see a childhood friend start his first day as a bar tender and Pete was giving his friend a ride who wanted to stop in for a beer.
Pete said as soon as he saw me he knew I was the one he was going to be with the rest of his life, he was 31 After talking for hours to Pete's friend, who was sitting next to me, the 3 of us decided to meet back at the tavern 4 days later to play poker. I ended up in the hospital, I was 9 years post and 26 with a bad uti, when I remembered I was going to meet those guys, oh well nothing I can do about it now. Pete and his friend were waiting when his friend said "Let's go, she stood us up." My Pete said "No, there's something wrong, I just know it. I have to find her." For the next 10 days Pete looked for me in the different places he heard me talk about. He ended up giving his number to Frankie, my long time friend and ask him to give his number to me. A few days later I met Frankie at a grocery store and he gave me Pete's number he said "If this was the other guy , whom you were talking to, I wouldn't be giving you his number. Somebody's got to look out for you." I went home and called the number immediately, because men didn't ask me out much (not even in high school) because I always asked them out first. When Pete got to the phone the conversation went like this; "Hi, this is Bobbie, Frankie gave me your phone number, he said you wanted me to call you. What do you want"? I was so excited, I couldn't wait. "Well, I wanted to ask you out on a date." Ok, when"? I said, it was Monday "How about Wednesday"? "What about tonight, 8:00 at Smiles"? "Umm, ok" When I got to Smiles, I remembered that I had no idea what he looked like because I was talking to his friend all night and the tavern was extremely dark. So I sat at a table with my back to the door. Someone tapped me on my shoulder and said "Are you Bobbie"? I took one look at Pete and fell in love. We talked and talked and he asked me to slow dance, then fast dance. We were there till closing at 2:00am Pete came over for our second date the very next day and we've been together ever since. Bobbie "You must fail in order to succeed"
