Some asked about my accident and life soooHere is a summery of me: May
30/31st at 1am 1981, I was driving a good friend on on a freshly graveled road.
I was driving a station wagon Pinto. A very light car. I hit loose gravel
lost control and rolled it into a very deep ditch. Of course back then no one
wore seatbelts. My friends fell out of the car and I was thrown through the
windshield. How that happen is beyond everyone because there is very little
room between the steer wheel and roof, that is probably why when I went out my
forehead hit the rim where the windshield was attached. It caused my neck to
bend backward breaking at an angel of C5,6,7 and scalping me in an L shape.
They doctors at the time thought the spinal cord was completely severed once I
was able to get an MRI years later they found there was a little still attached
which expand how I had full use of shoulders and biceps. I was lucky my friend
was able to get up and go get help because I was laying in the middle of the
gravel road and no one would have seen me until it was too late so God was
watching over me that way. I was blessed with no internal injuries and no
brain damage. Luckily my scalp was able to be cleaned and folded back in
place. Surprisingly my hair even grew back which they did not expect. The
ambulance driver and attendant were family friends, it was harder on them
seeing someone they knew. But it was a small community so I am sure they knew
everyone they helped. I was taken to a local hospital then Life flown to Iowa
Methodist Medical Center/hospital IN Des Moines IA where I spent three weeks in
ICU, 3 weeks in the hospital the went Younkers which was attached to IMMC. I
was there from the beginning of July until January 1st 1982. I was able to
stay caught up with my senior class while I was in Yonkers. When I got out I
joined my class of 34(that is including me.) I graduated with them.Small town
people rally together and help. Thanks to my classmates which I had gone to
school with since I was in Kindergarten, other friends from surrounding
communities, family and so many others.
