I will NOT take any antibiotic unless I have severe symptoms. I only had 5
bladder infections (no kidney infections) in the first 20 years after my
injury. Then I began to get more. Cipro used to be my savior but I do not
take it often.

I took Levaquin once but, OMG, I had the worst internal pain from my job to
my lower extremities. This was 2014 or 2015. I took in only one other time
but did not have those problems.

Over the last year, since my urethra has been ruined and until I can get my
surgery done... I have had several bladder infections and I wouldn't take
any antibiotics unless the pain was too overwhelming. I always had a
culture and sensitivity test prior to make sure I was put on the right
antibiotic.

Since my husband passed away, I have had more bladder infections but the
only thing that is different as caregivers doing my bowel regimens and,
with a female with a Foley catheter, offers more of an opportunity to get
an infections with different caregivers. I didn't have any infections
between 2006 and when my husband passed away (June 2012) so they began
after that.

I do not trust labs anymore either. I am waiting on the results of one
right now and they should have gotten back to me by now. A urine specimen
that was taken to the lab before that ... a week and a half before that...
(because of my severe symptoms) never got back to me and when my urologist
went to get the results the lab said they had never gotten any urine
specimen with my name and date of birth so they had to do it over again.

In the meantime, and because I was in so much pain, I was put on 5 days of
Cipro (500 mg twice a day) until a follow-up one could be taken... the one
I am currently waiting upon!

I don't scare easily and I HATE to be on any medications and, like I said,
I will not take any antibiotics unless I can't stand the pain anymore. I
have been on and off Cipro and other antibiotics for over 37 years now but
more of them needing after the year 2000 when I began to have bladder
stones. They were easily removed but my urologist wanted me on IV
antibiotics because of all the tools in my bladder.

You hear all about the side effects of over a million side effects of
medications on commercials for those looking to sue doctors. While, on the
flip side, for quad who get bladder infections and need them... what do you
