Hello,
I suggest you ask your doctor
When I had mine done about 20 years ago, they gave me the impression that
it COULD close up VERY QUICKLY (minutes) when it's first done.
Personally, the only time I I leave my catheter out is when it's being
changed with a new one.
I'm not sure what you mean by "giving it a rest"?
It seems to me that the catheter is keeping the bladder basically empty, so
I would think it's being at rest all the time.
At one time I use to purposely let my urine back up (from time to time) by
not draining the bag, thinking that I was keeping my bladder in good shape
by letting it expand once in a while, so if I ever had a plug catheter or
any other reason for my urine not to flow my bladder would be able to
handle it better. But the doctors said that's not a good idea, so I don't
do it anymore.
When in doubt ask your doctor, and do what he says, and if you do not you
should probably find a different doctor you can trust.
