Sorry to hear that.

I very nearly tipped over once. We use a barrier free lift with a sleighing to
transfer me to the wheelchair, and (unfortunately) I said on that when I’m up
in the chair. One time I was going full speed downhill and the strap from the
sling got caught in one of the drive wheels. It stopped that we’ll immediately,
and spun me around quickly, but somehow I did not tip over. These days I’m very
careful to be sure that the straps from my sling are securely rolled up.

Another day, I was riding home and noticed that one of my feet and slid off the
foot rest and was dragging on the ground. I asked my wheelchair salesperson
about it, and he said, “oh yes, I know another fellow that happened to, and it
flipped him over and broke his leg in three places.” I wondered, why didn’t
you tell me about this? I guess because he can’t make money selling inexpensive
straps. Now, I have an adjustable (and unfortunately, unpadded) strap which my
aides fasten around my ankles and the back of the foot rest of my wheelchair,
keeping my feet on the foot rests.

Take care,

Dave

Subject: [QUAD-L] Tipped Over, Ouch

Bad Day for me yesterday. First I get stuck on a packed gravel trail I’ve used
for years. No one around, so I called home. My helper comes out and gets me
unstuck. I take off again and in the rear view mirror, my helper sees me spin
and flip over. 1st time in 36 years I've ever when completely over…

I think I hit a rut in middle of a main street, it spun me around and me and my
chair go down. Broke my shoulder. Clavicle. Luckily its still lined up, so as
long as it heals strait, no surgery.

It took 5 guys to stop and tip me back up. I never had such pain. As I’m laying
there thinking “I hope someone stops to help soon.” I'm saying out loud “Ohhhh
Fuc* Me”

Spent the afternoon in the hospital getting x-rays, ribs, neck, arms, wrist.
Only issue is shoulder.
