*Johnny, firstly congratulations to make it to age 60 after being injured
at the age of 18. I was injured shortly after turning 15 and I am now 54. I
was doing okay (with BLADDER infections) until a home health agency nurse
hurt me badly. Then after going to a particular hospital/clinic I began
getting two of the biggest, bad superbugs that are extremely
multi-drug-resistant and dangerous and hard to get rid of because of that. *

*For the first 20 years after my accident I only had 5 infections than they
were easily treated with a Sulpha type antibiotic and that is very common.
I never had any side effects until 1997 when I got hives. After you have
had a bad allergy reaction to a drug (like I did taking Bactrim which is a
Sulpha drug) from then on it is a big no-no to take that type of drug again
so I can no longer take any Sulpha drugs. I remember taking one every day
as a prophylactic after my accident but I can't remember when I stopped
that. *

*Anyway, I didn't need it to a certain point and never got a bigger
infection until around 2005 when Proteus Mirabilis found its way into my
bladder via many bowel accidents and being female (with my meatus being
right here by my anus). I remember having it twice and having to resort to
IV antibiotics. It is a bacteria that does a great job to cause sediment
and bladder stones which is what happened to me. I wish that was the only
thing I was dealing with now. It is very sneaky and come then goes now but
thankfully does not cause me pain. Unfortunately, any bladder stones could
easily be removed through my urethral catheter until a home health agency
nurse blew up a balloon in my urethra for the first time in 38 years so
badly that it would not bounce back and so I required surgery to have a
bladder neck closure and switch to a suprapubic catheter. With a suprapubic
catheter.... bladder stones have to be caught sooner to be able to be
removed through a cystoscopy instead of an outpatient procedure to remove
them. Further, after I had the surgery in February of 2017... just 5 months
afterward I was found to have a growth on the lining of my bladder and it
turned out to be superficial cancerous so it was removed. That was probably
another way for the superbugs that I have been getting ever since came
from.*

*Anyway, since meeting my husband and with him being a Chief Medical
Technician when he was going to medical school and then me beginning to
have problems with Proteus... I began to pay more attention to what
BACTERIA was in my urine. The bottom line is... if your body reacts badly
to whatever your physician put you on STOP TAKING IT AND CONTACT HIM OR HER
so they can put you on something different. Simple as that. The type of
drug used and the duration of treatment depend on the type of bacteria.
There are plenty of bad physicians or urologists out there who think they
are gods so if you do not like your physician for your urologists and they
don't seem to be receptive to you... look for another one and from here on
out, the best advice I can give you is to educate yourself by asking what
type of bacteria you have. That way you will know and if you have to go to
another physician they can look at their lab report and see if you could be
treated with something else. Good doctors will do that.*

*Best of luck since I am having a terrible problem with pathogenic
superbugs now thanks to the ones that run wild in these hospitals these
days and are on medical equipment.*
