I've just upgraded my Quadra 800 with a CD drive from an old Performa 6200. I seem to have collected the right extensions, because the machine recognises both data and audio CDs just fine.
Trouble is, audio CDs produce no sound when playing. I assume this is because the "audio out" pins on the back of the drive have to be connected to something on the motherboard. Can some kind person tell me how? Another question: will this machine boot from a CD? I have made a CD copy of the system folder (7.5.1), but it won't boot the machine even when it's set as the startup disk (SCSI ID is 3). I can't seem to bless the system folder, either on the Quadra or by copying it to an iMac, so I guess this could be the reason it won't start from the CD.
