Thanks for the responses. So I take it that if I see a $5 Canon sitting in a print shop, I need to look to see if it has a serial cable. One thing about anything Apple-branded is you know it'll hook up, and most OS installations insist on giving you every LW and SW extension imaginable.
I said in my original post that I really don't like my DW 660C. The cost of ink cartridges is certainly a problem for those of us who can't get hold of after-market stuff, but what really irritates me about the 660C is that it keeps stopping in the middle of printing, making a "beep ... beep ... beep", waiting a few more seconds before plodding along. I read post about printer RAM occasionally - could this printer need more memory? I've taken apart just about every mac I've owned but never opened up a single printer.
