I guess it might depend on what version of the Avid software you are running, as the software expects to see certain things before it'll load. With Media Composer v5 on the Q950 the IV was used (that's what I've got), and depending on what resolutions you are using (ie up to AVR3) you could use the Q950s built in SCSI port.
