BUT, to those that are not Technical or Technically inclined a "Standard CAT 5 Cable" is in Networking terms a "Patch Cable" or a "Straight Trough Cable". This referring to the pin connections at each connector. (i.e. 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, etc) A difference in a crossover cable is (which ever two pins are used for transmit and receive) are reversed only on one end. Let's say that pin 1 and 2 are transmit and receive respectfully. On one end of a crossover cable, pins 1 and 2 would be switched. So, as an example only, if you used a multimeter to check the continuity of a "Standard CAT 5 Cable" pins, touching the leads to pin 1 on each connector would show continuity. Same with 2, 3, and 4. On a crossover cable, continuity would show between pin 1 on one connector and pin 2 on the other, then pin two to pin 1. -- Fred....
