Yes, technically speaking, they are both made of CAT 5 cable. BUT, to
those that are not Technical or Technically inclined a "Standard CAT 5
Cable" is in Networking terms a "Patch Cable" or a "Straight Trough
Cable". This referring to the pin connections at each connector. (i.e.
1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, etc)

A difference in a crossover cable is (which ever two pins are used for
transmit and receive) are reversed only on one end. Let's say that pin
1 and 2 are transmit and receive respectfully. On one end of a
crossover cable, pins 1 and 2 would be switched.

So, as an example only, if you used a multimeter to check the continuity
of a "Standard CAT 5 Cable" pins, touching the leads to pin 1 on each
connector would show continuity. Same with 2, 3, and 4. On a crossover
cable, continuity would show between pin 1 on one connector and pin 2 on
the other, then pin two to pin 1.
