Greetings,

Newbie question. New Macintosh user. Stuff
you will know the answer to :)

Above represents, roughly, the serial port
on the back of my Macintosh Performa 636CD.
I notice that the third row of pins from
the top row are 4 in number. But the serial
cable I purchased for connecting a Macintosh
StyleWriter II has but three pins in that row.
Even so, the cable fits the serial port. Is
it routine that one pin is not used? Or?

A list group member got me on track to
disable AppleTalk, which is not in use here,
so that my serial port is available to the
printer. However, that resolved, the 636
now reports to check that the printer is
connected and turned on.

Having no StyleWriter II manual, I am in doubt
as to how the printer is put online. The
rectangular light emitting diode lights up
when I power up the printer. However, the
small, round LED about an inch to the left
of the power LED is not lighted. And the
StyleWriter has but one button, for power on.
Is the StyleWriter not online? Is the smaller,
round LED for online? Or?

Thanks, and regards,
Jay
