Putting a 68040/33 full featured cpu into a system which had a
68LC040/20 will only get you the FPU. The cpu will run at 20 MHz and
cooly. The Macs used surface-mount resistors to set the speed of the IC
clock. Ten years ago there  was a website at UC Berkeley which gave
information on relocating the resistors to utilize faster cpu chips. The
Pickle may know where this info is but the Berkeley site disappeared
when the fellow who set it up matriculated.
