My company has a number of macs and many of them are used in desktop
publishing. For the most part, we're still on QuarkXPress 3.3x. It works
very well and as with most software, many of the new features aren't
necessary and most users only use a small portion of the available features
anyway. And at $800 a copy for the new version, we decided to wait till the
OS X version is at least 6.2 or 6.3 before we switch wholesale.

If you're thinking about printing some of your work professionally, go with
Quark or PageMaker. Professional printers usually have a pretty good
selection of software, but something like Ready, Set, Go is unlikely to be
usable to them.

Using QXP or PageMaker also ensures better chances of being able to open the
files you create for at least the next 5-10 years. If I were using Ready Set
Go and my machine crashed, I'd be at a complete loss to find another machine
anywhere that had a running version of it that I could sit down at. If it's
Quark, I know a couple of dozen printers that use QXP, as well as graphic
artists, layout monkeys, art students, etc. Even Kinko's has Quark and
PageMaker at the shops I go to.

Also, QXP 3.x runs on a variety of machines. I have it on a IIvx and a G4.
All the professional print shops use it.

Also, if you're going to be looking to work in the field, everyone wants
Quark or PageMaker/InDesign experience.
