Hi All, I just wanted to make it known to the community that I have started a program called Macs For Kids. Essentially what this is is a program whereby I take in donations of mostly older Macs, but, of course, any Mac will be appreciated, and refurbish it for sale to caretakers of young children for a very nominal fee (roughly half of what the current value of the particular machine is). Educational institutions who have a need will get any and/or all systems free of charge. Any profits from this service will go into a fund to purchase a goal of at least one eMac per year to be donated to a needy school.
I got the idea to do this when my young daughter (2 1/2 years old) became enamored by an old 7500 I had lying around. I fixed it up for her, installed some educational typing games, and off she went. She is starting at a Montessori school next week that uses Macs exclusively and Im proud to say that she will be way ahead of her class when it comes to knowing the basics of Mac computing! So, I feel that in this age of funding cutbacks for just about everything we have taken for granted for years, I wanted to do my part to give something to the community I live in. Anyone who lives in the Boston area who has a Mac that is just sitting around (admittedly, that will be very few of YOU!) and wants to see it get some use, please consider donating it to Macs For Kids. I am in the process of getting non-profit status for the program, so there will be tax deductions available for anyone who does decide to donate. I am in the process of finishing up the website, which will be www.macsforkids.com. In the meantime, anyone with interest please email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I really appreciate all inquiries.
