So you are saying 8.6 would perform better than 8.1 in general?
It has 80mb ram, 2mb vram, 1.1gb and 2gb hard disks and a miro video capture card.
8.6 runs better than 8.1 on any ppc mac I've tried it on.
The first optimized OS for ppc's, no 68k code.
8.1 is ok, has a small resource drain but is a mish-mash of 68k-ppc code which runs slower on the lowend ppc macs I have here.
8.6 requires a little more memory, not much compared to 9.x whill still has many of the functions of 9.
If you can "try" 8.5/8.6 some how without buying the cd then a clean install of the OS onto the second drive to trail its use would be best, personal taste will make one OS better over the other.
I didn't notice the (OT) in the subject line. Frankly, I don't mind a little OT about any mac.
Cheers
