Perhaps you have a bad mouse or bad connector on the mouse or computer.
You can always dismantle and clean the mouse. Sometimes stuff will block the optical sensors. (I've had this happen to a $150 trackball within months of buying it!) Certain keyboards also have fragile connectors.
