Comes with 4M soldered and one 72-pin slot. IMO 36M is more than enough, just get a single 32M 72-pin SIMM off eBay, LEM Swap list, etc. >I would also like to install a big hard drive and an ethernet >card... Just about any IDE hard drive will work. You will want to partition any multi-gig drive. Takes a Comm Slot ethernet card or an LC PDS slot ethernet card. All readily available on eBay, LEM Swap list, etc. >and upgrade to OS 8.1... IMO 7.6.1 is the best OS for a Quadra, unless you need 8.1 for a specific app. >Intended use would be a glorified jukebox - >somewhere I could stash a ton of mp3's and back-up other files from my main >mac. Is this realistic? Can a current generation OS X machine communicate >with an older OS 8 machine over a network? Yes. It's actually somewhat easier for OS X to be the client and the old Mac the server. The built-in FileSharing of Classic Mac OS works but can be slow. If you need more speed or many clients look for a copy of AppleShare server. The TV option works well. One thing this Mac won't do well is play MP3s. -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
