I have followed some remedies suggested by helpful listers on 1st
powermacs but these remedies have not so far solved this problem. Among
them, each of the following:
1. Unplugging the CD-Rom driver, running the computer, replugging the driver.
2. Replacing the Apple CD-Rom extension with a fresh one.
3. Replacing the Finder.
4. Using command-option-shift-delete to attempt to boot from the OS 8.1
install disk.
5. Unplugging the hard drive and then attempting to boot from the OS
8.1 install disk.
6. Vacuuming the dust from the driver via the front opening.
The bottom line is always the same. The CD-Rom reader never sees Mac
originated disks. It always sees the disk made by the PC Mac-emulator.
The only suggestion I haven't followed so far is to take the CD-Rom
apart for a physical cleaning.
