I bought a used Apple PowerBook 540C a few months ago and I immediately hated the keyboard. I bought a used keyboard via eBay and that helped quite a lot but I still dislike the action of the keys. (I'm used to a PowerBook 180 keyboard which seems a _whole_ lot more robust).
Before I bag the 540C (new PRAM battery, two 85% nimh batteries, 500Mb hard drive, car charger and 36Mb RAM) and try and find a different model portable, I'm thinking about pulling off all the keys one by one and cleaning the action(s) to see if that helps. Is that a common thing to need to do? Is it difficult? I seems kind of time consuming but I suspect that I would only need to do it once. Any suggestions on how to clean the actions would be appreciated. -- Matthew D.
