IIRC, you can stick the mobo from the NTR (assuming the board works) in the
LS and maintain your NTR's capabilities.

Correct.

The I/O boards in all the Personal LaserWriters (same marking engine as in
the HP LaserJet IIP, BTW) are interchangeable.

The NTR I/O board offers true Adobe PostScript Level 2, and simultaneous I/O
across all ports, something Apple's previous products didn't (until the IIf
and IIg).

The PLW LS is somewhat equivalent to the LW II-SC.

The PLW NT is somewhat equivalent to the LW II-NT.

The PLW NTR is a completely new generation of I/O board, this one being
Apple's first to use a RISC (an AMD 29000), and is probably closer to the
replacement for the LW Pro 630, in that that one also featured an AMD 29000.
