I have been able to download the A/UX 3.01 and 3.1 update images for toast from Archaic Apples. This is a cool site for anything Apple and orphaned.
The URL for the A/UX images is http://archaic-apples.shauny.de/index.php?category=Macintosh&subcategory=A%2FUX. So far, I have not had success installing onto my Q950. I have used the following steps. 1. un-gzip the disk images obtained from Archaic Apples 2. Run Toast, choose Disk Image as the burn type, load the 3.01 toast image by dragging into the toast window. This is about 485 megs. 3. Burn the CD 4. copy the boot floppy image to a 1.44 floppy (Mount the floppy image with diskcopy, then copy contents to a clean floppy) 5. Insert 3.01 CD that we just made into CD-ROM drive on the Q950 (an external Apple 300 with a caddy) 6. Insert boot floppy into floppy drive 7. boot the machine (or reboot if you are in Mac OS) At this point, the following happens; 1. floppy boots into Mac OS 7, then immediately runs the A/UX installer program, which shows a dialog entitled, "A/UX Install progress" and has a progress bar. 2.The dialog indicates "Loading..." with a progress bar about 25%. 3. The video resets once, then a new dialog appears that says, "Welcome to Apple Workgroup Server 95" and has a progress bar and a status string. The progress bar is about 25 % and the status string indicates "Launching...". The CD-ROM is being read. 4. The status strings changes to "Initializing environment." the progress bar goes to 100%. The CD-ROM is being read during this time. 5. the status changes to "Please wait, this will take a while". The CD-ROM continues being read for about 30 seconds. 5. The machine stops reading the CD-ROM, spits out the boot floppy and erases the screen so it is all just a gray pattern, with no mouse pointer. Nothing else happens. I've waited 30 minutes, and nothing. Machine is frozen. Does anyone have any help here? Do I need to partition my hard drive first? I have 5 partitions, the 2 partitions for the disk driver and loader (or whatever those first two are supposed to be), followed by an HFS partition for Mac OS 8.1 of 200mb, then a 144mb A/UX partition for the swap file and a 650 mb A/UX partition for root. I made the last two partitions with FWB toolkit. That's my complete braindump. I could really use some help. Thanks in advance.
