There's an outside chance the JPEG could have been infected when it left
your dad's box, and you probably wouldn't have done anything to remove the
infection, so any problems are your dad's fault, not yours.  Have him check
the file on his computer if possible; most of the recent nasty Windoze
viruses have been more than just simple infections of a picture file.  For
instance, a lot of the viral attachments for Sircam and KLEZ are
masquerading as screen savers, but I'll guarantee they won't open properly
as a screen saver...
