The problem is HTML and the various stuff have left the older browsers behind and will generate errors. The only way to fix it is to use Netscape 4.0.8 and just ignore any errors you get. It's the price you pay for using older stuff.
As for external CDROMs, there are plenty available on eBay and the swap list. What kind of upgrade card are you looking for? There are various kinds of upgrades you can do for it, I think there are even PPC upgrade cards. However, these days, you'd be a lot better off putting money into a native PPC like a x100 or 7200 or the like.
